Destination Unknown Railay Bay & Tonsai Beach, Thailand

I've traveled all over the world and over the years there's two place I return to on a regular base, One of them is Railay Bay Thailand( The other is the Kingdom of Nepal). I first visited Sounthern Thailand 20 years ago and even though it changed dramatically over the years it sill holds a special place in my heart & soul .And as you will see I'm not the only one who feels this way. I'm Michael Murphy and this is Destination Unknown Railay Bay Thailand

Phuket is Thailand s largest island, approximately the size of Singapore. Phuket nestles in balmy Andaman Sea waters on Thailands Indian Ocean coastline. It is blessed with magnificent coves and bays, powdery, palm-fringed white beaches, sparkling island-dotted seas, superb accommodations and seafood, delightful turn-of-the-century Sino-Portuguese architecture; numerous sporting and leisure opportunities; a lush tropical landscape all of which combine to create a delightful ambience for truly memorable holidays.

BEST BACKPACKING/TRAVELLING DESTINATION?

For 18-25 year olds.
Want nice untouched beaches, full of young people, and friendly welcoming locals in a relitivly safe environment.

Any suggestions? Probably in summer of 2010.
I was thinking Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, And on to Australia.

Is this a good idea or do you have any other advice or suggestions?
Thanks.

Whats a good honeymoon destination?

We are thinking of booking flights out to Thailand or somewhere like that and then taking the rest as it comes, ie not booking accomodation.

I cant think of any other nice destinations where we could do a similar thing!

I want somewhere thats really beautiful, great to explore, activities and not just a resort on a beach somewhere - like the carribean where you cant go out exploring as easily!

We are not SIT on the beach all day doing nothing people, we are very active and explore all the time.

Thanks guys....

Which is an overall better vacation destination the Philippines or Thailand?

Things that are most important:

1. Development (would rather be in an environment that has the least poverty)

2. Cost (low cost hotels that are not run down and inexpensive shopping)

3. Beaches (clean water and beautiful beaches)

4. Things to do (Lots of things to do without having to spend lots of money)

5. People (Friendly people that don't have their hand out or try to sell you something)

6. History (places to get good pictures so that I can say I was there and have a historical story to tell about the area)
I heard Thailand was better. Are there any other places that are good too? Like Japan or Korea?

Which Thailand destination is right for us?

I am a current student at Cal, graduating May 2010. My plan is for my fiance and I to move to Thailand for a month or two once I graduate so that I can relax and party while I begin studying for my CPA exam. We are a young and lively couple that loves watersports, sipping drinks on beautiful beaches and going dancing and clubbing at night. We would like a part of Thailand that is civilised (possibly Europeanized or Americanized), where we could have internet access and where we could relax during the day and party all night. We would just like to be able to be self-sufficient while not roughing it too bad in a place that is gorgeous but won't break the bank. Our plan is to rent a place for a month or two so that we are not paying resort fees and we get to LIVE with the locals in paradise.

Which Thai destinations sound best for us?

Ao Nang, All-round, Thailand’s Best Beach Destination

The development of Thai beaches, like those the world over, follows a standard cycle. First they get discovered by backpackers, for whom cheap beach-huts are erected. Islands such as Koh Muk and Koh Lao Liang are still at this stage, where the island is as pristine as anyone could wish for, but lacks the facilities which most of us don’t want to do without.

The next stage is when the developers move in and build bars, luxury hotels, restaurants and malls. Many beaches get ruined when over-development and over-population results in an unsupportable excess of pollutants. But somewhere along the way there is an optimal state, where there are enough facilities, but a still ecologically-sustainable tourist population.Ao Nang is now at this stage and represents, for many people, an ideal compromise between a pristine but boring resort and a fun but polluted one. The southern half of the beach is not yet bordered by a road, but the town has a wide enough range of facilities, for example 6 Italian restaurants, to keep most visitors happily occupied for at least a couple of weeks. Ao Nang is busy but hasn’t lost that laid back, friendly small-town feel; it is developed but still retains much of its original beauty and charm.

Ao Nang is, along with Chiang Mai, one of Thailand’s two most exciting adventure sports destinations. The home of two of the best beaches on the planet, Railay, which is also the best tropical climbing destination in the world, is fifteen minutes away by boat. The town’s location on the eastern coast of Phang Nga bay puts it within easy reach of all the fishing, diving and kayaking  sites in the bay. A day-trip to Koh Phi Phi is a better way to visit the place than staying there.
