Two questions about back packing in Thailand?

Hi, Were doing on the cheap and are planning on staying in beach huts, I'm sure they vary but what do you normallly get inside a beach hut, is it literally just a wooden floor and nothing else or is there usually something to sleep on like a bunk or a mattress or What?

And question two, will Tampons be widely available, will there be much choice in this area outside (or inside even) bigger towns and citys.

Thanks in Advance.....

  1. Hello. I think the huts will be basic but you need to check with who you book with as they vary a lot.
I’m not sure about tampons. Probably in bigger cities and at the airport and in very tourist areas but not so much in small vilages etc. I would take a supply of your own but otherwise try hotel shops.
Just a quick word, do make sure you take all safety precautions. There have been a number of incidents in Thailand (as there are at evry tourist place) but it may be a good idea to pack a door wedge for safety. I’m sure it will be fine but better safe than sorry.
Don’t accept drinks from strangers, make sure you see the barman pouring your drinks and keep to well lit areas at night. Don’t wear jewellery or expensive things out and be aware at all times. Dont go out alone at night if you are female – it’s best avoided unless you are sure you know how you are getting there and going home.
I’m not trying to be Mom but if you’ve never been anywhere like Thailand before it can be a bit overwhelming. Worth it though – you’ll love it!!

  2. Hey! Traveling on the cheap: my specialty! Every beach bungalow I’ve stayed in in Thailand has had at least a bed and bathroom and I don’t think I’ve paid more than 200-300 baht a night. The “worst” bathroom I’ve had was on Ko Phi Phi and it didn’t have hot water and you had to just fill the toilet with water to flush it. You’ll pay a little more for A/C instead of just a fan which most rooms come with. If my memory serves me right, most of the beds are at least a regular mattress on a box spring with simple sheets.

Not sure about the tampons but I’d say you’d pretty safe in the major tourist areas. If you’re going somewhere more remote, stock up.

    Have a great time!

  3. Tampons… no problem… I live here and am married, so I know.. but you won’t get the tampax variety… just the pad things that go inside your pants.
Huts vary a lot.. look around when you get there, it may be worth paying a little extra for a much better value room. Koh Samui is expensive everywhere though. About 1000b would be cheap. The little off beat islands are much cheaper and quieter also. Have fun and don’t forget the north for a more cultural experience.
